UN: Situation calm on the Israel-Lebanon border
United Nations Interim Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Commander Aroldo Lazaro said that the situation on the Israel-Lebanon border, which has been the scene of tension since 8 October, is currently calm.
In a press conference held at UNIFIL’s Nakura headquarters in southern Lebanon, Lazaro referred to the mutual attacks between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah Movement on the border in recent days.
Stating that the situation in the UNIFIL operational area is currently calm despite the worrying developments a few days ago, Lazaro said, "However, the situation is tidal. The mutual attacks between the Lebanese territories and Israel have not turned into any conflict."
Stating that UNIFIL troops have increased the number of patrols and activities on the border, Lazaro said that they continue to coordinate with the Lebanese army.
Lazaro said, "Our goal is to prevent Israel and Lebanon from confronting each other. We are working 24/7 to prevent this from happening."
