7 magnitude earthquake in Morocco: Death toll rises to 632

Morocco’s Interior Ministry announced that the number of people killed in the 7-magnitude earthquake in Marrakech increased to 632.
In a written statement made by the ministry, it was stated that the number of deaths in the earthquake that occurred in the El-Huz region of Marrakech increased to 632 and the number of injured to 329.
In a previous statement by the Ministry of Interior, it was reported that the death toll was 296 and the number of injured was 153.
It was noted that the majority of the dead were from the cities of Marrakech, Azilal, Agadir, Varzazat and Shishawa.

Moroccan media stated that the earthquake, which occurred at 23.10 local time, was felt in Casablanca, Meknes, Agadir and Fes, especially in the capital Rabat.

While the first information in the country’s press reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.8, the German Seismological Centre also announced the magnitude of the earthquake as 7.

While calls were made for blood donations in the country, rescue teams in Morocco continue to rescue those trapped in the rubble of collapsed buildings.
It is stated that the teams have difficulty in reaching the earthquake areas due to the damage and closure of the roads.
